​Welcome to The Park, Kilnwick

A new recreational and educational Space for the residents of kilnwick and surrounding villages
Opened to the public - 2nd September 2017
The Park, Kilnwick - A thriving public space for all the community to meet, play, exercise and celebrate; combining facilities for the community, education needs, encouraging wildlife and offering volunteering opportunities to all.

Whether playing on swings, wandering through the woods or relaxing on a park bench - The Park, Kilnwick will cater for everyone

Our Vision of The Park
The Park totals 6.5 acres and the layout now includes:
  • a central 3 acre mown grassed area for ball games
  • community orchard
  • exciting play area - including wooden play equipment ( swings, climbing frames, see-saw etc) as well as natural play elements (grassed mounds, tunnel, sandpit etc)
  • over an acre of new native woodland and new hedgerows
  • wildlife area - including wildflower and wetland habitat, alongside bird, mammal and insect habitat creation
  • variety of seating including picnic benches
  • accessible layout in a flat landscape and inclusive play features to permit disabled access​

Our plans for the next year include creation of:
  • further enhancing our play area with log balance beam, hedge tunnels and installation of our slide onto one of the grass mounds
  • further tree and hedge planting, creation of an outdoor classroom and further educational resources including nature trail and wildlife information boards

The Park has become a green recreational space for all ages, a haven for wildlife, an educational resource
and a base for community celebrations.

Approx 70 volunteers joined us to plant our first 420 Woodland Trees in November 2016
A further 420 Woodland Trees, 50 Fruit trees and 62 Specimen Native trees were planted in March 2017 by around 60 volunteers!

Everyone Welcome

The Park will enhance the health and wellbeing of all ages of the community through exercise, play and recreation.

The wildlife habitat creation will provide an outdoor learning space and an opportunity for local young people to develop their confidence, skills and abilities through volunteering.  

The Park will act as a focal hub for the community and be a base for celebration and fundraising events.

Aims of The Park

The aim of the charity is to create, maintain, develop and promote the use of this land for community and environmental benefits.  With local support and participation we aim to create a thriving public space for all of the community to meet, play and exercise, together with wildlife habitat creation and educational resources.

To provide local communities with a recreational space where they can safely exercise, socialise and play.

To enhance biodiversity through native woodland and habitat creation.  Wildlife educational resources for families, schools and playgroups will be created and utilised.

To encourage local people to make a positive change in their lives by developing confidence, skills and abilities through volunteering. ​

To revitalise communities by creating an inclusive focal hub for local community clubs and groups to utilise and for community celebration events.
