We have had a fabulous, if slightly soggy day in Kilnwick today. The Tour de Yorkshire passed through Kilnwick for the first time and we celebrated in style!
The village looked fabulous with Wayne's epic bike creation, the bunting created by our "Bunting Belle's" and painted bikes and lettering. We served drinks and refreshments prior to the race, enjoyed the spectacle, then the celebrations moved to The Park. John (2Chefs) created delicious BBQ food, with his helpers. The Village Hall Committee served on the bar and the kids enjoyed sports day races, tug of war and a colour run! A huge effort from the Kilnwick community, enjoyed by a large number of visitors. Thanks also to East Riding of Yorkshire Council for their £500 grant which allowed us to have such fun and celebrate the TDY visiting our village.

Massive thanks to Gareth from Mission Mountain Biking who brought his kit to The Park... and was such a fabulous encouraging influence to the Parklings (young and old). We had 5 years up to teenagers enjoying the different biking challenges on offer.
Ali Richardson from Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust came to Kilnwick last week and provided us with a fabulous First Aid Training package.
There were 20 or so us that were trained - nearly half were from our "Parklings" youth group. Thanks to everyone who came along. We hope you can come and join us for an afternoon / evening of fun, to celebrate the TDY passing through Kilnwick for the first time!
Our plans will centre around cakes / refreshments and craft activities in the build up to the race coming through... enjoying the spectacle... and then sports day activities, tug of war, colour run and more fun - with BBQ and licensed bar into the evening. We are currently doing lots of preparation - if you can help donate old bikes (for painting for decorations), do some knitting of small jerseys, baking in advance or would like to help on the day please send us an email on [email protected] Hope to see you there! All profits from the day to towards improvements at Kilnwick Village Hall. Article about our recent funding from ERYC Youth and Family Support for our "Kilnwick Parklings" youth group - published in last weeks Driffield & Wolds Weekly Newspaper.
We had a fantastic afternoon and our longest ever Parklings today! We started by planting strawberries, blackcurrants, raspberries and rhubarb at the allotment (huge thank you to Henleys Nursery - Market Weighton, who donated 3 bags of compost, 3 bags of bark chippings and 3 sacks of mushroom compost to us to "encourage the next generation of gardeners").... we then called in at Linda's and had a great time pond dipping and finished off at The Park... the Parklings dispersed nearly 4 hours later... Huge thanks to everyone for the fun - well over 20 of us. We had a great time. 🌳🐸🌳
We are delighted to announce that we have been successful with the 2019 - 2020 East Riding of Yorkshire Council's "Positive Activities Grant." This will fund more youth activity in the coming 12 months which will centre around physical activity, outdoor artistic creativity and wildlife enhancement. We are hugely grateful to ERYC for their support once again, and to our fabulous volunteers for their ongoing enthusiasm.
Last night at Parklings, we had a super evening making and learning about volcano's. Huge thanks to the lab rascals for a super and very enjoyable session (for all ages!).
