We had 19 young people (plus adults) attend our Parklings session today. We had a very productive session planting a new Village Hall planter with an evergreen shrub and annual plants. It looks very smart. We also cleared the old rotten planters away and made the ground level and re-seeded with grass seed.
After that, each Parkling created their own "Garden in a Tray" with decorations. We can't wait to see how they evolve as the grass and cress seeds grow! There were some fantastic RHS "Chelsea" inspired ideas. After a cup of hot chocolate, we went and ran off some steam at The Park, before the heavens opened and we all dispersed to dry off!

Half Term special - on Tuesday 28th May 2019 from 2-4pm, meeting at the Village Hall. We will be creating "gardens in a tray," doing some gardening at the Village Hall and more...
Such a fantastic Parklings in the sunshine today. Massive thanks to Gareth from Mission Mountain Biking who brought his kit to The Park... and was such a fabulous encouraging influence to the Parklings (young and old). We had 5 years up to teenagers enjoying the different biking challenges on offer.
Ali Richardson from Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust came to Kilnwick last week and provided us with a fabulous First Aid Training package.
There were 20 or so us that were trained - nearly half were from our "Parklings" youth group. Thanks to everyone who came along. We had a fantastic afternoon and our longest ever Parklings today! We started by planting strawberries, blackcurrants, raspberries and rhubarb at the allotment (huge thank you to Henleys Nursery - Market Weighton, who donated 3 bags of compost, 3 bags of bark chippings and 3 sacks of mushroom compost to us to "encourage the next generation of gardeners").... we then called in at Linda's and had a great time pond dipping and finished off at The Park... the Parklings dispersed nearly 4 hours later... Huge thanks to everyone for the fun - well over 20 of us. We had a great time. 🌳🐸🌳
We are delighted to announce that we have been successful with the 2019 - 2020 East Riding of Yorkshire Council's "Positive Activities Grant." This will fund more youth activity (Kilnwick Parklings) in the coming 12 months which will centre around physical activity, outdoor artistic creativity and wildlife enhancement. We are hugely grateful to ERYC for their support once again, and to our fabulous volunteers for their ongoing enthusiasm.
Last night at Parklings, we had a super evening making and learning about volcano's. Huge thanks to the lab rascals for a super and very enjoyable session (for all ages!).
A great turnout at Parklings today for the pond clearing - the 20 or so of us made good progress around the pond, ready for wildflower plug plants to be planted and seeds to be sown soon! Simultaneously the Ha-Ha was being cleared!
Next Friday evening we have a Lab Rascals Science Experiment session at the Village hall. Please email ellen.beddows@gmail.com if you would to come along. Places are limited...
Last weekend our Older Parklings had a fabulous session at Dalby Forest undertaking a skills session with Mission Mountain Biking (Gareth Hanson). We are planning more sessions as they really enjoyed themselves. Gareth is also going to do some coaching at The Park and help us design a mountain bike challenge at The Park. We are hoping to have a session out and about at the Peak District in better weather later this year.
